Jens Siegert has headed the Moscow office of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung – the Green Political Foundation – until 2015. He is an expert for the developments in the Russian society, still lives in Moscow and writes regular articles on his blog about the challenges for the democratization process in Russia.
Dr. Elena Belokurova is a Research Associate in the Center for German and European Studies and teaches at the St. Petersburg State University. Her main research interests are European and Russian governance structures, regional politics, civil society groups and local self-government. She has published numerous books, articles and papers dealing with the developments in the Post-Soviet societies and in particular in Russia.
This Module will provide you with knowledge in the fields of research and analysis of civil society structures. It will focus different organizational forms as well as with the financial, tax-regulatory and political framework for the work of civil society organizations. In addition, the Module will deal with possibilities of political influence and degree of independence from political institutions as well as general models and instruments to measure civil society activity.
- You will be able to analyze and to evaluate the structuring of the civil society sector as well as the legal and political framework conditions for civil society activities in a given society.
- You will get the capability to locate your own civil society project in this system and to establish contacts with civil society actors in a targeted way.
- You will be provided with practical skills concerning active participating in controversial discussions, presenting and supporting your own arguments and elaborating a well-structured research paper.
