News from Jul 12, 2017

The German-Chinese Graduate School of Global Politics (GSGP) is the first and only three-year PhD program between China and Germany in the Social Sciences. Focusing on dissertation topics with a special emphasis on European-Chinese relations, for German PhD candidates the program includes a 6-12 research stay at one of our four Chinese partner universities - and vice versa for Chinese candidates. Throughout the doctoral program, we support our candidates on their journey to successfully complete their thesis. For this reason, the GSGP offers an interdisciplinary educational approach. Candidates study with top-experts in relevant knowledge fields when considering the many different links between Europe and East Asia. Moreover, the program is designed to help students improve their soft and intercultural skills. In this regard, students benefit especially from our interactive assignment structures and the peer input by their colleagues. To provide help with specific questions and problems, we offer a number of intensive seminars at Freie Universität Berlin over the course of the academic year.

For 2017, the second intensive seminar takes place from July 13 to July 14. The two-day class presents current macro-theoretical debates in International Relations. By analyzing their applicability in research and comparing their strengths and weaknesses, our PhD candidates have the opportunity to learn more about theoretical approaches to global politics. With their dissertation in mind, this course will prepare for their research endeavor.Aside from several time slots reserved for classes, students will also receive advice on how to find a second supervisor for their thesis and on how to make the best use of the Dahlem Research School.

The intensive seminar is led by Dr. Siegfried Schieder. Dr. Schieder is an expert for International Relations, who now teaches at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität HeidelbergSince 2010, Dr. Schieder has been teaching at the Center for Global Politics as a regular guest lecturer.
