The global rise of populism is one of the most crucial challenges to a functional international state system. After Brexit, the election of US President Donald Trump and the recent meeting of Europe’s rightwing populist leaders, it seems that the populist wave is only growing stronger – raising the question of what to expect next.

Given the importance of the current political situation across the globe, there is a need for more expert knowledge on this subject. On March 13, Prof. Segbers was invited by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Phnom Penh to give a public lecture tackling the populist phenomenon. Hosted by René Gradwohl, head of the KAS Cambodia Office, the event set out to challenge the audience to think about populism in global terms.
