This year’s school revolves all around the guiding theme “China and Europe in a World of Change: Chinese and European Perspectives”. While we invited lecturers from Germany to talk about (Media) Images of Europe and China (Karsten Luc/ ThinkAsiaGroup), Europe in the global context (Felix Karstens/ ETH Zürich) and European integration (Dr. Ulrich Brückner (FU Berlin) thereby focusing on the EU, their Chinese colleagues will join them in their teaching activities to talk about the role of China in the global context (Prof. Dingli Shen/ Fudan University) and Asian regional integration with a focus on ASEAN (Assoc. Prof. Liqin Wang/ Tongji University). In addition to the global players China and Europe, the U.S. as an international actor will also be examined. Prof. Zhongqi Pan (Fudan University) and Dr. Josef Braml (DGAP) will therefore each assess the first months of the new U.S. administration – from a Chinese and European perspective, respectively. In addition, we are happy to welcome Sandra Holtermann from Planpolitik who will take over this year’s simulation game. For the project module, Dr. Sigrid Winkler and Ines Sieckmann from the German Chamber of Commerce Shanghai will give an insight into the evolving of CSR and CSR projects in China.
The academic program is accompanied by a diverse supporting program that includes a city tour, a boat trip on the Huang Pu River, the visit to Startup Factory Kunshan as well as a visit to the German Beer Festival in Kunshan. The summer school will conclude with a panel discussion on “The Rise of Populism: Effects on China and Europe”, kindly organized and sponsored by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung/ Shanghai Office.
