On February 16, the Center for Global Politics hosted Prof. Dr Balzer from the Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. for a talk on “Why China has been able to fix a Soviet-style economy while Russia has not?”.

To account for this difference, Balzer presented a whole range of political explanations. Students from the online and on-site master programs as well as the graduate school attended the fascinating lecture. The lively discussion afterwards centered on questions like the role of principal agent factors for the respective institutional changes, as well as the different degrees of global economic connectedness of China and Russia.
