On the 19th of June, Prof. Dr. Segbers invited Cécile Calla to his Seminar „Medien und Politik“ (Media and Politics) at the Freie Universität Berlin.

Cécile Calla is a french journalist, who is living for 15 years in Berlin. She worked in Germany as a foreign correspondent for Le Monde and till 2015 as chief editor for the magazine ParisBerlin. Her book Que reste-t-il du couple franco-allemand? about her franco-german experiences was distinguished with the franco-german Price of Parliament in 2015.
Tuesdays topic of the seminar „Medien und Politik“ was „Die Grenzen des Erlaubten und der Öffentlichkeit“ (The Pale and Publicity). Participants discussed the question of the mechanism of freedom of press in France and Germany in comparison and raised the question of the medial processing of terrorist assassination attempts in both countries (e.g. Charlie Hebdo, Nizza, Breitscheidplatz in Berlin).
The discussion with Cécile Calla, who extensively experienced the medial landscape in France and Germany, was very fruitful and intense.
