The 8th and 9th of October the seminar "Populism and the Future of European Integration", organized by the Center for the Study of Democracy at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria in Madrid, took place.

Prof. Segbers got invited and talked on the 9th of October about "Europe in Transition. Pillar of the Liberal World Order or Object of Populist Seduction?".

The Universidad Francisco de Vitoria is a private university located in the Community of Madrid, Spain.

Over two days, the seminar focused on topics concerning the European Union and its future. Especially regarding the populist tendencies, the EU has to face new challenges and strenghten its democratic legitimacy.

Presentations of the seminar "Populism and the Future of European Integration" were "Populism and the reshaping of ideological cleavages in Europe", "Democratic legitimacy and the Future of the European Union", "Migration, inequalities, nationalism, secessionism: current challenges to the European integration process", "New leadership and strategic vision in the European Union", "Eastern Europe and Euroscepticism" and "The European Union in the age of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin".
