For the fourth year in a row, the Global Politics Workshop Ukraine is bringing together young academics from the region and beyond to discuss global and regional developments with a focus on violent conflict and its resolution.

News from Apr 18, 2019

This year again, CGP is happy to be able to carry out a Global Politics Workshop with PhD candidates, young lecturers and practitioners in the fields of Political Science and International Relations. Once more, the workshop is co-organized by the Ukrainian Catholic University and the Center for Global Politics (CGP) of Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) with funding from the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD. On April 13, the workshop took off with the introductory module by Prof. Klaus Segbers on the changing global landscape, followed by a pleasant welcome dinner at Atlas Café in Lviv's beautiful city center. Since then, the participants from Ukraine, Georgia, Germany, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria and the US have discussed much in the field of conflict and reconciliation research. The unresolved conflict in Ukraine and Ukraine-EU relations mark the regional focus of discussions. Additional input is provided by academic experts as well as experienced practitioners from the field, such as Antje Grawe, Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine. Participants also have the opportunity to develop and discuss their own research projects, giving and receiving feedback in the diverse group of peers. In an interactive group task, the workshop challenges participants to reflect on their societal role as researchers and university teachers, a challenge that has been taken up with great interest and promising results in past years.
