Trained in International Studies, Ms Mai Mai works as a visiting lecturer at VNU's University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH). She is also active on the organizational side of international academic exchange at the International Cooperation Office, a function in which she first encountered CGP's Seasonal Schools in Hanoi.
As a researcher, Mai Mai specializes in development studies, and analyzes ASEAN, the Southeast Asian regional organization. On her first day at CGP, she has already shared some insights on the dynamics of Southeast Asian regional politics compared to the EU. In the spirit of mutual teaching and learning, Ms Mai Mai will also prepare a brown bag talk for the staff of CGP about effects of globalization on the quality of university teaching in Vietnam. Using the library portal of Freie Universität she will also advance her own research projects on migration, focusing on the local impact of immigration on the Vietnamese city of Hanoi, and analyze visa policies and labor migration coordination among ASEAN Member States. In this context, she is looking forward to shadowing Prof. Segbers in his current master-level seminar "Migration and International Politics". Another topic of interest is the phenomenon of populism, addressed by another current seminar and by a recent CGP working paper.
