The Times Higher Education Index ranked the Freie Universität on place 93. Only three universities reached a position between the Top 100 universities worldwide. In Social Sciences the FU was ranked on place 47 and is the only German university among the Top 50. The ranking includes the assessment of 9.000 scientists and economic employers, the amount of international students as well the quotation of universities’ scientists in international journals. The success of the FU rests mostly upon the high international appearance of its scientific work as well as of the attractiveness for international students. Furthermore employers ranked the reputation of FU students as double as high as in 2007.
